Event Details

A talk for our times, by UCL Professor Emeritus for Geophysical and Climate Hazards, Bill McGuire. Bill is a regular contributor to the New Weather Institute and author of ‘Waking the Giant’. Recently published research reveals that climate breakdown due to global heating may be far worse than originally feared. Within 30 years, London’s climate will be comparable to Barcelona’s, with blistering summers bringing life-threatening heat every year. By mid-century, sea levels may be rising by as much as half a metre every decade, leaving all coastal towns and cities under water by the century’s end. While the possible shut down of the Gulf Stream may bring bitterly cold conditions to the UK and North-western Europe, at least for a time, inescapable humid heatwaves will begin to make other parts of the world uninhabitable by 2100.

£7 per person.  Pre event food available with advance booking – please let us know if you would like to eat here before the talk.
