Wirksworth Heritage Centre offers numerous opportunities to learn, discover and be inspired. Our learning programme covers all age groups and can be tailored to meet individual needs. Our sessions take inspiration from our heritage and collections to engage and captivate learners.

We offer half and full day sessions for Key Stages 1 and 2 which can be individually designed to meet your learning objectives or topic. Our varied programme can be tailored to meet the National Curriculum over a wide range of subjects whilst providing an inspirational learning environment for your pupils. Outreach sessions can also be arranged. Example sessions include:

  • Rich and Poor
  • Viking and Saxon Wirksworth
  • Pulleys, Levers and Forces in Leadmining and Quarrying
  • Underground Wirksworth



We offer half day, full day and single lesson sessions for Key Stages 3 and 4 which can be tailored to your pupils’ needs. Our Secondary programme can be designed to meet the National Curriculum for a variety of subjects. Outreach sessions can also be arranged. Example sessions include:

  • George Eliot and Wirksworth (Comprehension or Creative Writing)
  • WWII and Wirksworth
  • Justice and the Barmote Court
  • Medieval Wirksworth
  • Declining Industries


FE & Higher Education

Wirksworth Heritage Centre provides a fascinating learning experience for Further and Higher Education Learners. Students studying Architecture, History, Museums and Heritage or Conservation can explore the realities of working with collections within a listed building. We offer sessions for Sixth Form, Undergraduate and Postgraduate groups, as well as providing opportunities for work experience and placements.
