Event Details

Not a story about ‘fake news’ but a fascinating travelling exhibition. Using one of the new exhibition spaces at the Heritage Centre, this community rooted project glimpses life on the World War One home front in the Derwent Valley. It reveals little-known stories of how total war had far reaching effects on daily life – well away from the battlefields of France. Even local school children were recruited to the cause – collecting horse chestnuts so that their acetone content could be harvested for use in making cordite for explosives!  The show was produced as a series of storyboards and a patchwork of fabric pieces, created by the Derby-based Spiral arts collective – supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. Open 9am to 5pm daily until 31st January.
