Wirksworth Heritage Centre has won the award for Best Educational Building in the prestigious LABC 2019 Regional Building Excellence Awards.

The LABC Awards are the largest business to business awards in the building control sector, recognising quality in all types of building project. They feature buildings and design teams that have come up against complex technical or construction issues and building site constraints. The awards also highlight building solutions that demonstrate innovation and creativity.

The Awards ceremony took place at Leicester’s landmark art deco building the Athena on Friday 17 May 2019. Over 300 guests attended from across the region’s construction industry.

Awards were presented by Matthew Hoggard CBE, former England and Leicestershire County cricketer and on the night there were 15 winners and five high commendations. Wirksworth Heritage Centre was in good company, with winning projects also including the Cripps Health Centre at the University of Nottingham and the RSPB Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre in Nottinghamshire.
