At the beginning of February, Anton Shone gave an evening talk entitled Wirksworth in a Roman Landscape – about Wirksworth’s unique landscape and the case for its consideration as the lost Roman town of Lutudarum. Anton is a well-known local archaeologist and historian, has supervised a number of digs in and around the town, and has sought to enlighten our knowledge of Wirksworth through the ages. And a fascinated crowd packed out our Studio room at the Heritage Centre to hear him talk.

The second in our series of talks on 1st March on the subject of Lead Mining in the Wirksworth area will be by Dr. Lynn Willies, author of a number of books on Derbyshire lead mining and quarrying. As last month’s talk was oversubscribed, we recommend you book early for this one! Only 35 places available – click here to find out more and to book your place.
