Event Details

Our next Heritage Talk, at 7.30pm on Friday 7th August, is ‘The Derbyshire Yeomanry in the First World World’, an account of the regiment’s First World War experiences using diaries, letters, postcards and photography. The Yeomanry were the county’s mounted cavalry, initially a volunteer force drawn from civilians with experience of horseback, including areas like Wirksworth.

Our speaker is Dr Mike Galer, previously Senior Keeper of Military and Social History for many years at Derby Museums, and the creator of the current military gallery, Soldiers Story. He is currently General Manager/CEO, of Crich Tramway Village, home of the National Tramway Museum.

The talk will be delivered to you online through Zoom (which is free to use, and we will send you instructions).  In order to cover our costs and begin generating much needed income for the charity which runs the Heritage Centre, we are charging £5 for tickets for this event, bookable through this page on our website (You do not need a Paypal account – please follow the instructions on the page to pay by credit card). When we receive confirmation of your payment we will send out a joining link.  If you have any other queries or would like to join our event mailing list, please contact us at info@wirksworthheritagecentre.org.
