The Museum Collection

The collection focuses on significant areas of Wirksworth’s history. Key industries such as lead mining and limestone quarrying are highlighted through the tools that were used and geological specimens.

A bath made by D. Marsdens & Sons and whiskey crates from Charles Wright & Sons are just two of the many items from local businesses which have shaped the town.

Important figures and families in Wirksworth including Elizabeth Evans, the inspiration for George Eliot’s Dinah Morris and the Gell family who had a significant impact on the town are represented through fabulous costume and personal items.
